In anticipation of the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023, Australia has unveiled its roster, featuring ten formidable bowlers, while three players have had their World Cup aspirations dashed.
As the days draw closer to the ODI World Cup 2023, preparations for the tournament in India are in full throttle. Following India’s team announcement, Australia has now disclosed its own squad. The Australian cricket team is currently engaged in a tour of South Africa, where three players have been omitted from the original 18-member lineup.
Australia’s selection comprises 15 players who will journey to India for the World Cup. The Australian squad is regarded as one of the frontrunners for the championship, prompting cricket enthusiasts worldwide to eagerly await the announcement from the Australian Cricket Board regarding the chosen players.
The composition of the team boasts a remarkable depth in its bowling department:
Among the 18 players representing Australia, four are fast bowlers, three are pace all-rounders, one is a spin all-rounder, and two are spinners. Consequently, the team will have a total of ten bowling options at its disposal for the ODI World Cup 2023.
The fast bowling contingent includes the skipper, Pat Cummins, along with Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Sean Abbott. Among the four all-rounders, we find Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, and Glenn Maxwell. Completing the lineup are the two spinners, Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa.
Regrettably, the dreams of three young players to participate in the World Cup have been shattered:
Australia had previously selected an 18-man squad for the World Cup a month ago. However, from this pool, only the best 15 players have secured a spot in the World Cup squad. Unfortunately, the aspirations of three young talents, namely fast bowlers Aaron Hardy and Nathan Ellis, as well as the Indian-origin Australian leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha, remain unfulfilled.
The selection process considered the players’ performances and the team’s synergy during the T20 series against South Africa, striking a balance between the enthusiasm of the youth and the experience of seasoned campaigners. The team will be led by the fast bowler Pat Cummins.
Before embarking on their World Cup campaign, the Australian team is scheduled to engage in a three-match ODI series on Indian soil, a move aimed at solidifying their preparations.
The ODI series is set to commence later this month, specifically on September 22, with the subsequent matches scheduled for September 24 and September 27. Notably, both Australia and India will commence their World Cup journey by facing each other on October 8.
