New Zealand’s star all-rounder Glenn Phillips, batting in the first innings of the first match against Australia, scored 71 runs in 70 balls against Australia. In which he also hit 13 brilliant fours. While bowling against Australia in the second innings, he took five wickets for 45 runs in just 16 overs.
In which he showed the way to the pavilion to Australia’s star batsmen Cameron Green, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Usman Khawaja and Alex Carey.
Australia has the upper hand
In the first match between Australia and New Zealand, Australia, after losing the toss and batting first, scored an excellent score of 383 runs in 115.1 overs. In response to which New Zealand’s batsmen scored 179 runs in 43.1 overs.
While playing the second innings, Australia’s batsmen scored 164 runs in 51.1 overs. Now New Zealand has got a target of 369 runs to win this first match. However, Australia seems to have the upper hand in this first test match.
Glenn Phillips has done the feat of taking five wickets in an innings for the first time in his career. Phillips is the first New Zealand spinner in the last 16 years to take 5 wickets in a home Test. Before him, this feat was done by Jitan Patel.
Jitan Patel played a brilliant inning for New Zealand in 2008, taking five wickets in his home match. In this match, Phillips has left a great impression not only with the ball but also with the bat.
