Gautam Gambhir : Former Indian team cricketer Gautam Gambhir has decided to stay away from politics and not contest the Lok Sabha elections this time. In a post on social media handle X on Saturday, he said that he is free from political responsibilities.
He has given scope to relieve Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda from his political duties by posting on X.
Gautam Gambhir posted on his, “I have requested Hon’ble Party President JPNadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM Narendramodi ji and Hon’ble HM AmitShah ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind!”
Gambhir’s political career
Gambhir joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019 in the presence of Union ministers Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad. He had secured 6,96,158 votes while contesting the Lok Sabha elections from East Delhi seat in 2019.
He had defeated Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely and Aam Aadmi Party’s Atishi Malena from the East Delhi seat.
Gambhir has been made the coach of KKR in IPL 2024. This time both Lok Sabha elections and IPL will be organized simultaneously. In such a situation, Gambhir wants to advance his cricket career and has decided not to contest elections this time.
Gautam Gambhir’s cricket career
Gautam Gambhir has played 58 Tests for India in his cricket career in which he has scored 4154 runs while scoring 9 centuries. Gambhir scored 5238 runs in 147 ODI matches, which included 11 centuries.
Whereas Gambhir has also given excellent performance in T20 International matches and has scored 932 runs in 37 matches with the help of seven half-centuries.
